SA ED Wait Times -- Visualization Drafts
Recharts prototypes for SA (South Australia) emergency department data. SA provides average wait times and a qualitative status indicator (Normal / Busy / Very Busy) but no patient counts or bed capacity -- so visualizations lean heavily on wait time trends and status distribution.
A) List Route Enrichments
1. Hospital rows with status indicator and wait time sparkline
SA's primary differentiator is the qualitative status badge (Normal / Busy / Very Busy). The sparkline tracks average wait time over 24h since SA does not provide patient counts.
Royal Adelaide Hospital
Avg wait (past 2h, excl. high priority)
Flinders Medical Centre
Avg wait (past 2h, excl. high priority)
Lyell McEwin Hospital
Avg wait (past 2h, excl. high priority)
Modbury Hospital
Avg wait (past 2h, excl. high priority)
Noarlunga Hospital
Avg wait (past 2h, excl. high priority)
2. SA-wide average wait time with hospital range
The shaded band shows the spread between the fastest and slowest hospital at each time point. The solid line is the statewide average. Period average is 20 min (dashed).
3. Current average wait time ranking
Horizontal bars sorted by longest wait. Dashed line at 30 min marks the Normal/Busy threshold. Color encodes the qualitative status derived from the wait time.
4. Status distribution over time
Stacked area showing how many of the 5 hospitals are in each status category at each time point. A fully green chart means all hospitals are at Normal; red creeping up signals system-wide pressure.
B) Detail / Analysis Views
Charts below use Flinders Medical Centre as the focal hospital where applicable.
5. Wait time trend with status bands (Flinders)
The background bands show the Normal (<30m), Busy (30-60m), and Very Busy (>60m) zones. This makes it easy to see how long the hospital has been in each state.
6. Wait time comparison across all SA hospitals
Overlaid wait times for all 5 SA EDs. Focal hospital (Flinders) in solid lime, others in lighter tones. SA's small hospital count makes direct comparison practical.
All data above is mock-generated. Real SA data will come from SA Health at sahealth.sa.gov.au with ~30 min refresh intervals. SA provides only average wait times and a qualitative status -- no patient counts or triage breakdowns.
